Three Things I Like About Hospitality CDPs
August 2026 · 1 min read
When a returning guest is about to arrive, we usually have a good idea of what to expect. Most of us are creatures of habit, and our guests are no different.
That got me thinking about the three capabilities that make hospitality Customer Data Platforms (CDPs) particularly valuable.
1. Understanding Behavioral Patterns
I think this is one of the biggest opportunities. A hospitality CDP can identify patterns that aren't obvious from individual reservations, helping hotels understand how guests actually behave over time. Instead of treating every guest the same, we can personalize the experience based on those behaviors.
2. Knowing Where Guests Are in Their Journey
Communication is only effective when it's delivered at the right moment. A CDP understands whether a guest is researching, booked, preparing to arrive, currently in-house, recently checked out, or ready to return. That context allows hotels to deliver relevant communication instead of simply sending more messages.
3. Remembering Every Conversation
Guests communicate through email, WhatsApp, phone calls, SMS, chat, and other channels. Bringing every interaction into a single timeline gives the team complete context before engaging with a guest. It creates a more consistent experience and eliminates the need to piece together conversations from multiple systems.
As always, I'm interested in how technology can help hotels deliver better service. In my experience, improving the guest experience is what ultimately drives more direct bookings, stronger loyalty, and higher revenue—not simply collecting more data.
